Simone Garagnani is Associate Professor at the Department of Human Studies (DISTUM) at the University of Urbino “Carlo Bo”. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering and a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering with an excellent evaluation. He is specialist in “Representation and Modeling, methodologies and technologies for the 3D representation and modeling of archaeological and monumental artifacts” after completing an international Advanced Training course with national selection based on qualifications, attended at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa. He held a fixed-term research position at Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, focusing on teaching and research related to architectural drawing, digitization of artistic and archaeological assets, colorimetric fidelity of ancient drawings and paintings of historical/artistic significance, the survey of museum objects and Building Information Modeling (BIM) applied to historical and monumental heritage. He further explored these topics abroad, first in 2012 as a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley (USA), and then in 2015 as a Guest Associate Professor at Keio University in Tokyo (Japan). He served as the coordinator of a Research Unit within the FIR – Futuro in Ricerca project “Kainua. Restituire, percepire, divulgare l’assente. Tecnologie transmediali per la città etrusca di Marzabotto,” where he introduced ArchaeoBIM methodologies into archaeological analysis for the first time. From 2012 to 2014, he worked as a researcher at the Interdepartmental Center for Industrial Research (CIRI) – Construction and Building of the University of Bologna, where he developed software and visual information storage methods for historical and monumental architecture.
